Social Media impacts teenagers in many different ways including the increase of social anxiety. The ability to communicate with the touch of your fingers causes students to be less likely to talk to their peers in person. It is very easy to talk to someone through social media ,but his increased ability to do this makes it very difficult to approach new people.

Social Media can also add social pressure to teens and their peers. Having easy access to models and video editing causes teens to push themselves to try to seem more attractive. This leads to younger children getting cosmetic surgeries, wearing heavy makeup and even eating disorders. The pressure to seem perfect 24 hours a day can make adolescents very anxious.

Dissatisfaction with one’s life can cause an immense downfall in their mental health. Anxiety can also increase because of the easy accessibility. When put in a new environment, teens are more likely to pull out their phones and scroll through Instagram. This lets them avoid new people and places leading them to be more anxious. This mindless scrolling can also be a cause of teens going to bed late. Staying up for hours just to scroll and then later waking up early to repeat the cycle can lead to decreased sleep. This inability to sleep can lead to higher chances of social anxiety in adolescents.
